Side Thoughts
As the name suggests, this is where you will find our Side Thoughts on everything from photography to design.
These are not only the things we enjoy during our professional work, but also our hobbies and how we enjoy connecting together during our “time off”.
Camera ISO Basics
Back in the day when cameras were designed to use film, ISO referred to how sensitive a roll of film was to light. Photos shot on a roll of film with a higher iso number would need less light hitting the film to end up with a photo that is properly exposed.
Shutter Speed Basics
Today we’re going to be talking a bit about shutter speed and how it effects your photography, so if you are new to an SLR camera or typically use it on automatic, this will give you a better understanding about shutter speed.
Camera Aperture Basics
In it’s simplest form, the aperture in a camera lens is the size of the hole in the lens that allows light of varying amounts to pass through the lens to hit the sensor in a camera body. You can think of a lenses aperture similar to a person’s iris (the coloured part of an eye).
4 Types of Lighting for Your Home Photography Studio
Let me guess, you have been a photographer for a little while now in one form or another, and you are now ready to take that next step into setting up your own photography studio. This is an exciting step that allows room for more opportunities and to be more creative!
Full Frame vs. Cropped Sensors, 8 Things You Need to Know
When it comes to the discussion about cropped vs full frame sensors whether it is a APS-C or micro four thirds, there is a never-ending debate about which sensor size is “better”. No matter what you believe, it is hard to argue that in terms of overall image quality, full frame sensors have a leg up on their competition.
From the Kitchen to the Table
There are so many details I love in our dining area. Specifically, I want to show you two projects! One of my favourite stories involved in this space, is the story of how our kitchen table came to be.
Faux Fireplace
When I spotted the mantel at a local thrift store I was thrilled! I grew up with a wood burning stove and fireplaces in every house after that.
Updated Hardware
I love the details that can change and update a room easily. I say easily, but for this project, my husband graciously did most of the work!
Staple Stairs
I thought the stairs would be easy, but the more I considered it the more I wanted to leave the carpet down. We needed to pick a stain that would match the new floor and we didn’t even know what the stairs looked like under that carpet.
It’s the Holiday Season!
I have wanted to try these DIY greenery ideas for over a year. How difficult could they really be?
Have Yourself a Merry Christmas
Christmas is my favourite time of year! I love the entire anticipation of the season. Here are a few details from around our house as we get ready for the holiday. First, I change up the chalkboards (this year, the red door is my favourite).
Rebuilding a 1986 Yamaha TT225, My First Dirt Bike
I grew up in the country with the distant sounds of two-stroke engines. Although many of the kids at school grew up riding their family dirt bikes, I never had the opportunity to ride one when I was younger.
Chair Challenge
We wandered into a wholesale store on one of our weekend getaways and in the back corner, I was stunned to see dozens of chair options with amazing costs! We got to pick our style, they were packaged up for easy transport, and all ready for assembly, plus a nice finish.
My 1978 Honda Motorcycle Rebuild
Two years ago I decided that I wanted to learn how to ride a motorcycle as a fun challenge for myself. After doing lots of studying and passing the M1 and M2 license tests, I realized that if I ever want to actually ride on the road, and not just in a parking lot while I was learning, my next step would be to find my first motorcycle.
Forever Flooring
When we arrived the second story and stairs were carpeted. Clean carpet, but still carpet. Not my favourite, but I assumed we would eventually get around to changing it. We had many conversations when we should do this (as many of your know, flooring isn’t cheap). We had just seen the paperwork, with final house costs and our budget was slim.
